Apparently, people do read this Blog

At the request of someone who emailed me, here are some videos of Chris. I made two videos because after Chris's recorded 100 freestyle for time, he puked, and I shut the camera off because I didn't know if he could handle the embarrassement on camera. So I am blogging about it right now. Anyways, please enjoy.

Exactly 30 Miles

Beginning Weight: 234.6
Current Weight: 223.3

I was actually a little dissappointed that Chris only lost a little over a pound... but I guess that is better than nothing.

Chris has started lifting weights..... and since muscle weighs more than fat, its possible that lifting weights is offsetting his swimming exercise, making it harder for him to lose his 10 percent of weight loss.

Personally, I think its ok. He is staying active, and he is becoming healthier.

This morning, our main set was:

4 x 75's free with fins on 1:30
6 x 75's free with fins on 1:25
8 x 75's free with fins on 1:20

Which is 1200 yards total, and Chris was able to make all the send offs. So he was swimming for almost 1200 yards/ 30 min straight.

Anyways, back to Me and Chris Bet of losing our Goal weight. I weighed myself on Saturday, and I was only down to 177.5. I am up to running 50 minutes straight, and on Sunday, I was able to run Memorial Park without stopping..... I am only down 1.5 pounds.... this might be a little harder than I thought.

Anyways, I have 7.5 pounds to lose, and Chris has 12.1 pounds to lose. For those of you who don't know what I am talking about, please read my post on July 15. We have a little bet going, winner gets a nice dinner.

I also have had a few requests to get some videos on here..... so I am working on it right now!

Monday July 20, 2009

Today was the first time I have seen Chris in Two Weeks!!! He actually looked pretty good in the water.

In the swimming world, they have this thing called a Taper. Basically, you work really really hard for a period of time, and then before your big swim meet you start cutting back on yardage, resting more, working on stroke technique, perfecting starts and turns; During this taper time, you give your body a chance to rest and heal so you are in tip top shape for your big swim meet. The taper theory is a well know theory, but the amount of time to taper has/and always will be the biggest question in swimming.

Typically, the more and harder you train, the more you rest. But then the coach has to factor in the individuals past taper and how well he/she did and tweak the schedule accordingly. Then, of course males and females train differently, therfor their taper will be slightly different. Then there is the age factor, and how much these kids actually train..... theres a lot of things to think about.....

Anyways, having taken two weeks off from swimming, I am guessing Chris's body has healed, and his swimming muscles have gotten a chance to rest and recover, so by the time he got in this morning, he felt pretty good in the water, and his body knew what to do and they were in tip top shape.

Enough Chattering, this is what we did this morning;

300 Warm Up

10 x 50's Drill with 10 sec rest. Odds Free Drill, Evens Stroke Drill

4 x 75's Kick w fins on 1:20
4 x 75's swim w fins on 1:15

1 Min Break

6 x 75's Kick w fins on 1:20
6 x 75's swim w fins on 1:15

Total 2300 Yards.

Where is Chris? 5.7%..... BRING IT ON!!! July 15

I am sorry I have not updated this blog in a bit, but for those of you who are wondering why.... this is my answer.

Besides Monday morning, I haven't seen Chris in over a week and a half. So there is nothing to blog about! This might upset some people, but last week Chris was on vacation. He came back for Monday July 13th practice, missed Wednesday (I am not quite sure why....), and will be off to Florida for the weekend to pick up his family. So I probably won't see him until July 20th. We will weigh him on Saturday July 25, and he better not weigh more than he was on June 27... his last weigh in.

Anyways, as of June 27, Chris has lost approximatly 4.3 % of his body weight. He was at 224 pounds. He needs to lose 13 more pounds (Aprox 5.7%) of his original weight to reach his goal. I think in the last two weeks he has been slacking off on his "business and Family" trips.

This is what I am proposing. I think I can lose 5.7% of my body weight by Sept 1, maybe even quicker than Chris can. In fact, if Chris loses his 5.7% before I do, I will take him AND his family out to my favorite Mexican restuarant in town. If I lose my 5.7% before he does, he needs to take me and Lauren (my GF) out to the same Mexican restuarant. What is my fav Mexican restuarant? El Tiempo Cantina on Richmond. There is a lot riding on this bet.... because El Tiempo can be pretty pricey depending on how many margaritas you order.

My starting weight: 179 (which is really disappointing to me because I have been running like no other in the last week and a half.... and I have lost no weight)
